Ryan Gibbs is a second year Master of Social Work student at Boise State University’s College of Social Work. He obtained bachelor’s degrees in psychology and political science from the University of Utah. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies Ryan joined AmeriCorps and committed two years of service at Fourth Street Clinic addressing the mental health needs of individuals experiencing homelessness. Ryan has spent the last seven years working at UAF Legacy Health, a community health center focused on providing primary care, HIV care, and behavioral health services for the LGBTQ+ community.
Given his work with many vulnerable populations Ryan understands the importance of meeting people where they are through a holistic lens of cultural awareness, understanding, and kindness. This approach allows him to consider not just a client’s emotional health but also their physical health, environment, relationships, and social influences. He is especially interested in working to reduce mental health related disparities for members of the LGBTQ+ community, aging adults, and other historically marginalized groups.
Ryan is passionate about social justice, animals, world affairs, and creating a better world for every human being. In his free time, he loves to ski, road bike, practice yoga, and savor all the natural beauty in our great state of Utah.
