ABSTRACT
Navigating through complex memory networks and dissociation in EMDR therapy can fee daunting to both the client and clinician. this workshop will help the EMDR clinician to prime the nervous system in order to maximize the benefits of the EMDR Therapy reprocessing phases. this will be accomplished through helping participants to identify signs of dissociation and other nervous system complexities early on in therapy and apply effective interventions to stabilize client. Also included will be specific skills that can be utilized to facilitate comprehensive history taking, and accurate and helpful conceptualization which will result in targeted treatment planning. This will give both client and clinician clear direction in navigating complex memory networks. Participants will walk away with a thorough understanding of how conceptualizing client trauma with the nervous system in mind will simplify what may otherwise feel overwhelming.

OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Participants will be able to verbalize the various functions of the nervous system, including those functions which are designed to help with survival and engagement in life.
- Participants will be able to summarize the ways in which trauma impacts the nervous system and the various ways in which the nervous system adapts in order to survive trauma.
- Participants will be able to identify at least five specific signs of the various types of dissociation.
- Participants will be able to identify 3 specific skills to adequately assess for dissociation in the History Taking Phase of EMDR Therapy.
- Participants will be able to discuss how attunement to a client's culture as well as the systemic dynamics result in a comprehensive conceptualization of trauma and dissociation.
- Participants will be able to identify how attainment to culture and systemic dynamics will result in more meaningful resourcing in preparation for reprocessing phases.
- Participants will be able to name 5 skills a clinician can utilize to adequately prepare a client with complex trauma and dissociative tendencies or disorders in the Preparation Phase of EMDR Therapy.
