Accept Help from Those Ahead of You on the Trail

The majority of people who overcome drug addictions credit a former addict for significantly helping them succeed.

This fact inspired us to choose the hiking cairn (stacked rocks) as our logo. Hikers use cairns to mark the trail...helping those who come after them to find the safer and more enjoyable pathway.

Here are comments from Life Stone clients to show addicts and alcoholics that there is hope.

"Sauna of Destiny" by N.J.

Life Stone clients who complete a Far-Infrared Sauna Detoxification are invited to write an essay on their experience. Here are the words of a recent Life Stone graduate named Neil, written just five weeks into his 14-week Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). His parents were told "there is no hope for this young man" by an administrator at the inpatient rehab treatment center where he was living when he began the Life Stone program.

"Once upon a time, there was a magical box. This box in America is called "The Sauna of Destiny." The sauna for me has been a very good thing. When I first came to Life Stone, I was really depressed. I hadn't slept through a whole night for who knows how long, and I was stuck in a place that was NO GOOD for me. Now, I am happy with my life. I sleep amazing at night, and I live at home again. Also, I feel better physically. I'm sure that all the Niacin burning out all of the weird chemicals has helped my body, and the vitamins have helped me feel healthier. I have lost the extra weight that I gained at (inpatient facility). The sauna has also given me time to read some good books and watch some good movies. The group therapy after sauna has been good. I have made good friendships and learned a TON from Patrick. So, all in all, the Sauna of Destiny has helped me physically and mentally. I am very glad I was able to be a part of the Life Stone program.  The End."

"I have learned how to be sober and smart. I have learned a lot more about me and how my mind works. I have learned more about other people and their struggles. I don't feel like I need to search for happiness externally. All I have to do is learn how to live with myself."  -- B. Y.

"This is the coolest treatment I've been to since I've been in drug court. I've learned a lot about managing my schedule--getting back to a regular discipline mode." -- K. N.

"It (my life) is better because I think ahead of time before I act. My IQ is improving not only because I'm off drugs, but I've learned how to use my head a little better. I've learned that by upping my I.Q. I can improve my quality of life."  -- O.S.

"I've learned a lot about myself and how to live with my parents. I've learned about my beliefs. I've learned good communications skills. I'm no longer depressed. I can sleep through a whole night. I am at home and not at (local inpatient facility) and I'm starting college soon!"  -- N.J.

"It's a very comfortable place, and the staff lets you feel like a real person. My life is much better since the day I talked to Mike (Life Stone director) on the phone. I feel like this (group) is more or less my new family and for once in my life I have people in my life that truly care about me."  -- G.M.

"I'm comfortable with everyone here, and happy I'm clean, and very happy that every one of the counselors here will go up to bat for me. I can talk to the staff about anything."  -- C.M.
