Dissociation is the reason for many of the challenges in therapy. Being unaware of client dissociation and how to address it can lead to client overwhelm or shut down, confusion for both the client and therapist, conflicts within the therapeutic relationship, stagnation in the healing process, and therapy drop out. Understanding dissociation is vital in order to appropriately facilitate the healing process and to move through the roadblocks that dissociation can present in therapy. In this three part series, you will learn the basics of dissociation, understand how to work with parts, and learn skills to help your client better understand and help them move forward in healing the nervous system.
In part one, participants will gain an understanding of the different types of dissociation, learn common signs of dissociation, be able to identify appropriate ways to assess for dissociation and to begin the conversation about dissociation with clients, and will be able to conceptualize complex clients in a trauma-informed way, which will create a road-map for success in therapy.
